There are strong indications that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, may not offer himself for re-election in the forthcoming national convention next month.

The decision to step aside at the end of his tenure in June, a source said, is to be seen as not opposing President Muhammadu Buhari or taking any action that will further divide the party.

With this development, chances of the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, succeeding Oyegun are getting clearer.

At a meeting with APC governors on Tuesday, Buhari reportedly endorsed Oshiomhole’s candidature, a move the National Publicity Secretary,
Bolaji Abdullahi, described as a personal opinion of the president.

The chairmanship slot of the party is reserved for the South South, particularly Edo State.

A source close to Oyegun reiterated to Daily Sun that the chairman has resolved to quit at the expiration of his tenure instead of seeking re-election at the convention.

When asked to explain the point when Oyegun felt he should drop out of the chairmanship race, the source replied that he had been in a quandary over the issue, for a long time on account of his age.

“He has not been enthusiastic about remaining as chairman. He does not see the chairmanship contest as a do -or -die affair.”

Although Oyegun is not keen about staying on as chairman, the source said some tendencies in APC, comprising some leaders and governors, mounted intense pressure on him to continue as chairman “because of his mien and managerial ability.”

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello and his Kaduna counterpart , Mallam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai are known staunch supporters of Oyegun.

However, as a way of placating Oyegun, a Presidency source said an ambassadorial position, or a lesser appointment, may be given to him.

He said the president’s decision to do away with Oyegun and hand the chairmanship baton to Oshiomhole “is to bring vitality to the leadership of the party.”

According to him, the president made up his mind to back Oshiomhole for the job; as far back as December 2017.

The source revealed that Buhari had hinted some people close to him, including Alhaji Mamman Daura, Alhaji Isa Funtua, former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, former Zamfara State governor, Sani Ahmed Yerima and former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, about his decision.

The national convention of the party had earlier been fixed for May 14.

The date has since been reviewed after the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, announced after the APC governors meeting with the National Working Committee, in Abuja, yesterday, that a new date will be announced after Ramadan.

A 68-man convention committee, chaired by Jigawa State Governor, Badaru Abubakar, was inaugurated earlier this week.

Senators Call For Impeachment of Buhari

For not seeking National Assembly approval before the withdrawal of the $496 million used for the purchase of aircraft from the United States, some senators have called for President Muhammadu Buhari’s impeachment.

Section 143 of the Nigerian constitution provides for the removal of the president from office.

Moving a motion on the issue on Thursday, Matthew Uroghide, Edo state, said President Buhari’s move was a violation of the constitution and thus, he should face the consequences.

He prayed the Senate to invoke Section 143 to start the impeachment process of the president.

Seconding the motion, Chukwuka Utazi spoke in support of the move.

“This is an impeachable offence,” an obviously angry Mr Utazi, said.

More senators are currently speaking on the issue.

Oluwadolapo Oluwadamilola Ajayi, the 26-year-old daughter, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Dr Eniola Olairan Ajayi, is dead.
She died last Friday, 20 April, during the funeral rites of her grand-father at Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

It was a sorrowful day to the family of Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Dr Eniola Olairan Ajayi, on April 20th, 2018 as she was burying her father, she lost her daughter in the process.

The promising beautiful Oluwadolapo Oluwadamilola, who flew in from the United States of America to attend the burial ceremony of her grandfather.

She didn’t know that would be her last day on earth as she was reportedly hit by an in-explainable tragedy on the day of the burial.

The crème of high society, had on that fateful Friday, congregated at Iyin-Ekiti for the burial ceremony of Pa Oluwatoyin Owolabi Ajayi, who died last January 21. All was going well at the church ceremony, which had the minister of power and steel and Eniola’s mentor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his wife, Erelu Bisi in attendance until tragedy struck.

Sources disclosed that in the midst of the burial celebration. Ambassador Ajayi’s daughter, Dolapo, started to complain of a headache. All efforts to relieve her on the spot proved to be an exercise in futility. She was later rushed to a private hospital, where she gave up the ghost after the doctors tried their best to revive her.

Predictably, the orgy of festivities at the burial ceremony came to an abrupt end. The uplifting music being dished out from the bandstand by gospel act Yinka Ayefele was replaced with serious wailing and lamentations from the shocked guests.

Ambassador Ajayi, a former Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and later Commissioner for Environment in Ekiti State, also doubles as Nigeria’s representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia.

The late Dolapo Ajayi, CPA, was born on 22 May 1991. She was an Assurance Senior Associate at Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Washington DC, U.S.A.

Dolapo’s remains were laid to rest yesterday at the Vaults and Gardens, Lekki, yesterday, with a Church Service, conducted by Daystar Christian Center.

May her gentle soul rest in Peace as we commiserate with her family on her demise.

Killings: Catholic Bishops Of Nigeria Calls For President Buhari's Resignation

Amidst growing concerns about the recent killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the country, including two Catholic priests and 15 other worshippers in Benue State, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign.

The CBCN urged President Buhari to stop presiding “over the killing fields and mass graveyard” that the country had allegedly become and choose the part of honour by considering “stepping aside to save the nation from total collapse.”

The CBCN made the call in a communique signed by its President, Most Rev. Augustine Akubeze, and Secretary, Most Rev. Camillus Umoh, and made available to The PUNCH on Thursday evening.

The bishops, in the communique titled, “When will this barbarism end?” condemned the increasing attacks by the suspected herdsmen, whom they said had turned the country into a massive graveyard.

They also described the killing of the priests and 15 parishioners in the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday as a dastardly act that was “carefully planned.”

The communique read in part, “That our two priests, Fr. Joseph Gor and Fr. Felix Tyolaha, along with their parishioners were waylaid in the course of the celebration of the Holy Mass early in the morning, suggests very clearly that their murder was carefully planned. This wicked act  cannot be said to be a revenge attack (as is often claimed).

“Whom have these priests attacked? Indeed, we have just discovered that on January 3, this year, Fr. Gor tweeted, ‘We are living in fear. The Fulani are still around here in Mbalom (where they (priests) were killed). They refuse to go. They still go grazing around. No weapons to defend ourselves.’

“Their desperate cries for security and help went unheeded by those who should have heard them. They could have fled but, true to their vocation, they remained to continue to serve their God unto death.”

The communique continued, “We are sad. We are angry. We feel totally exposed and most vulnerable. Faced with these dark clouds of fear and anxiety, our people are daily being told by some to defend themselves.

“But defend themselves with what? The Federal Government, whose primary responsibility it is to protect lives, for its part alleges that those who ask the people to defend themselves are inciting them to take the laws into their own hands. But how can the Federal Government stand back while its security agencies deliberately turn a blind eye to the cries and waillings of helpless and harmless citizens who remain sitting ducks in their homes, farms, highway and now, even in sacred places of worship?”

The Catholic bishops lamented that in spite of several calls on the President in the last two years to reconfigure his security apparatus and strategy, “which the President has deliberately placed in the hands of the adherents of only one religion,” and the lack of confidence expressed by the CBCN in the security agencies, the bloodletting and destruction of homes and farmlands had increased “with intensity and brutality.”

How Pastor Lambasted Sade Adu’s Father’s Corpse During Burial In Ekiti In 1985
FAMILY: Sade’s mom, Anne, Banji (Sade’s brother and elder sibling), dad Adebisi and Sade.
In many Nigerian societies, there is a norm that is observed with all seriousness: do not speak ill of the dead. In these communities, the dead is often seen as not really sacred in the sense of it, but as defenceless and already under judgment in another realm – the next world. However, in December 1985, a man decided to shred this societal norm into a thousand pieces. What was even more shocking was that the man was a pastor – member of the clergy that was believed to venerate, or at least, accord some respect, to the deceased – and he released his display in one of the most conservative corners of tropical Nigeria. Come with me on this journey back in time on how Pastor Lambasted Sade Adu’s Father’s Corpse During Burial

BACKGROUND
In the world of 1985, things were very much different from what it is now: there was no social media as we know it today, only the rich or well-to-do bought newspapers, Nigeria was ruled by crazy military despots, Ronald Reagan had just been sworn in as President of the United States for the second time, Nelson Mandela had rejected an offer of freedom from the South African government, Madonna had launched her first concert tour in New York, Steve Jobs had resigned from Apple, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Ciara, Michael Phelps and Lewis Hamilton, the legendary British Formula One driver, were all born. But in this time, these were not the only stars. In fact, there was one superstar who was dominating everywhere and who was known all over the globe. Her name: Helen Folasade Adu. Her middle name, Folasade, means “honour confers your crown”.
Just aged 26, Sade had conquered the world: her debut album, Diamond Life (containing the hit track, Smooth Operator)¸ which she had just released in 1984 after a record deal with Epic Records had sold over eight million copies, climbed to No 8 on the US chart in September 1985, smashing the records to become one of the top-selling debut recordings of the 1980s and the best-selling debut every by a British female vocalist. A legendary voice, Sade would later be named the most successful solo British female artist in history. But 1985 would come with its own tragedy for this queen of the songs.

THE ORIGINS AND THE DEATH OF SADE’S FATHER
Although Sade was born in Ibadan, Oyo State in 1959, her ancestral home is Ikere-Ekiti, in what is now Ekiti State, as there was no Ekiti State back then in 1985. Sade’s father, the late Professor Adebisi Adu, was a Nigerian economics lecturer at the University of Lagos who had married an English district nurse, Anne Hayes, in 1955. The couple met in London while he was studying at the LSE and moved to Nigeria shortly after getting married, they would later on separate with Anne taking Sade and her sibling Banji to the United Kingdom where they stayed with their grandparents. He later rose to the position of the Acting Head of Department, Economics Department, University of Lagos.
The Adu family compound is located in Afao in Ikere-Ekiti with its patriarch (Sade’s grandfather) being Josiah Alawemo Adu, a well-known chief in the area. He was known as Baba Egbe of African Church Cathedral in Afao, Ekiti because he was one of the strongest members of the church who combated followers of the African traditional religion who had vehemently opposed the construction of the church (natives worshipped the Olosunta Rock so when the Anglicans came, it was a real battle). He made sure that although his family was a large one being a polygamist, that his children were very well-educated. As a matter of fact, Sade’s father was the first graduate of statistics in Nigeria and one of the very first graduates from Ekiti.
THE FUNERAL CEREMONY AND THE PASTOR’S DRAMA
Following the news of her father’s death, a devastated Sade flew to Nigeria to honour her late parent. She was visibly taken over by grief and sorrow. The fateful day, a Saturday in December 1985, came and the venue of the funeral service was the St. John’s African Church in Ikere-Ekiti. When the time came for the traditional religious sermon, the pastor stood up, grabbed the microphone and gallantly coughed into it. In the audience were Sade and other grieving members of the Adu family. What came out next from the pastor’s mouth was more than a nuclear bomb. He thundered on and on leaving no room for mercy for the lifeless Adu lying in the casket laid out in front of the altar or pity for his sorrow-soaked relatives and loved ones inside the Gothic-looking ecclesiastic masterpiece.
Taken over by a scary mix of derision, anger and cold-heartedness, the pastor released all the venom in his mind. He blasted the dead man saying although he was the first graduate of Ikere-Ekiti, he never associated with the rustic town when he was alive. The church went into total and confused silence. Congregation members could not believe what they were hearing and some others felt they probably had ear infections that even the best doctors in London could not treat. But the ‘man of God’ was not done yet. He lashed out again saying people should be useful and do good deeds while they were still alive. His listeners were thrown into a state of shock and confusion but the pastor did not send anybody. He then delivered a punch so painful that many in the church could not take it any longer and started murmuring. The pastor asked the bewildered congregation: ‘With all his education, can he now carry the whole of his certificates to the grave?’’
By now, the tension inside the church was more than palpable. Apart from the kids and relatives of the deceased, others listening to the rambling of the pastor were colleagues of the man in the coffin and they came all the way to represent the university community and honour their fallen friend and their hero. Also, because Ikere-Ekiti was such a small community where everyone knew everyone, Professor Adu’s loss was a communal one that called for group mourning so everyone from all corners of the hamlet was there to listen in shock to what the clergyman was reeling out for their hearing.

But the pastor was not alone; he had his supporters who were also natives of Ikere-Ekiti. Some of the parishioners said that although the pastor went too far in his condemnation of the dead, but that the late Adu too did not try that he could have done more for their community. One of the parishioners said that the late Professor Adu could not even paint the African Church where he was now being castigated in death. The parishioner, who did not want to be named, insisted that the late Adu had the money and resources to paint the church but he refused. He argued further saying if the late professor was able to marry three foreigners (the late Adu was married to a British, a Swiss and an African American) and who graduated from the university in the 1950s, he should at least have enough money to spoil his townspeople and carry out projects such as the painting of the church.

When the pastor had comfortably painted the dead man as the most evil creature before everyone throwing his family into even more grief, a gentleman rose, approached the pulpit and saved the day for the Adus. He was like a perfume detoxifying the atmosphere. He first played Mark Anthony to douse tension and erase the stinging impression left by the pastor and commenced his own speech. The gentleman said although it was true that the late Adu was the very first graduate from Ikere-Ekiti, it was sheer wickedness for anyone to say he did nothing for his hometown. The gentleman said the late Professor Adu was so in love with his town and his people that the hospital in the town could not have been possible without Adu’s efforts. He also reminded everyone of the various contributions the late Adu made towards the development of his town while he was alive.
Overtaken by emotions, the congregation kept clapping and the applause echoed all over the community. Sade, the beautiful daughter of her dad, went to the pulpit and made attempts to also defend her late hero, her father. The first time, she tried to summon courage and speak out but she broke down in tears, the sobs made others ululate even more. The global music star and an idol to millions was reduced to tears in a village deep in the forests of tropical Africa. She made a second attempt to defend the soul of her father but she broke down again, the tears reflecting the sheer agony of her loss. The harder she tried, the more the tears came streaming down her famous face. Finally, she gave up – the shock was just too much for her.

After the service, some of the late professor’s colleagues who spoke to reporters shed more light on the whole thing. According to Yinka Orimolade, also an economic lecturer at the University of Lagos, Adu’s critics were talking from an angle of sheer ignorance. Orimolade said when Adu was retired in 1975 by the regime of military strongman Murtala Muhammed, Adu did not even have a house to retire into because he did not have a house. Orimolade further explained that even as a foundation member of the Department of Economics in UNILAG, there was no housing scheme in place that would have assisted Adu to construct his own house. He also said Adu was not into private practice like others so when the retirement came, he had no place to hide his head. Another colleague, F O Onipede, corroborated what Orimolade said saying it was him (Onipede was also retired alongside Adu) who offered Adu his boys’quarters in Isolo, Lagos to stay saying: ‘That was where he stayed until he was able to move to Ibadan.’ Orimolade continued saying: ‘Even at Ibadan, it was obvious Adu was not making it. The man did not have the temperament to be in business. He was strict and could not tell lies.’
That day was one of the saddest in Sade Adu’s life. Although she was then one of the most celebrated figures on earth, she was in no mood to either sing or talk about her career that day. Not even her mother by her side could crack her gloom. To worsen the whole case for her, the pastor went on and on to heap so much venom on her late father, someone she cherished greatly. Sade Adu would later depart Ikere-Ekiti with so much pain in her heart, never to return to Nigeria.

AFTERMATH
With time, Ikere-Ekiti began to feel some of the touches of modernity. A road construction project meant Professor Adu’s corpse had to be exhumed and buried in a new site. His daughter remains a legend and has gained even more fame, won the Grammy, sold over 50 million albums to become the most successful solo female artist Britain has ever produced, amassing more power than she could have imagined that day 31 years ago but her father was not able to witness any of her earthshaking achievements.
So what are your thoughts? I leave you with my favourite of her works, King of Sorrow:

The leader of nuclear-armed North Korea Kim Jong Un and the South's President Moon Jae-in said they were committed to the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula after a historic summit Friday
North and South Korea will seek a 'peace regime' to end the Korean War after 68 years as Kim Jong-un agreed to 'complete denuclearisation' during historic talks today.

Kim Jong-un became the first North Korean leader to step into the South for 65 years as he met with President Moon Jae-in for a peace summit today.

The two sworn enemies exchanged a warm greeting at the 38th parallel in the truce village of Panmunjom before the pair held talks and planted a commemorative tree together.

This afternoon, they embraced warmly after signing a statement in which they declared 'there will be no more war on the Korean Peninsula'.

Kim Jong-un has become the first North Korean leader to step into the South for 65 years as he met with President Moon Jae-in for a historic peace summit on Friday
Kim said 'we are going to be one again' as he spoke of 'sharing the same blood' before adding: 'We should pave the way for a new future where all the people can live peacefully.'

'I sincerely hope both North and South can move freely through the path that I have just come by today. And we are going to be one again, as we share the same history, the same language, the same culture, the same blood.

'We are going to happily look back at the hard times in the pas when we achieve a new future. No pain, no gain. Let us go forward, step by step for the bright future together.'

It comes following a year in which North Korea, the South and the US traded increasingly bellicose rhetoric about nuclear war amid a series of atomic tests by Kim's regime, but then dramatically softened their stances in the last few months.

Guilty Bill Cosby lashes out when DA asks for his bail to be revoked
Bill Cosby's true colors showed as he lashed out in court before speeding home in a large SUV after he was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand.

As DA Kevin Steele demanded the comedian's $1million bail be revoked because he is a flight risk, Cosby, who was all smiles as he walked in to court ahead of the verdict, yelled out that 'he doesn't have a plane, you a**hole' in outrage.

It came after the jury of seven men and five women unanimously found Cosby guilty on all three counts of aggravated sexual assault: administering an intoxicant, rendering his victim unconscious and penetrating her without consent.

The 80-year-old actor now faces spending the rest of his life in prison as each count carries a sentence of up to ten years imprisonment.

After the verdict was read, defense attorney Tom Mesereau met briefly with the press and said: 'The fight is not over.'

Cosby refused to make a statement at a press conference following the verdict and was driven immediately home in a black SUV.

Judge Steven T O'Neill said Cosby was not to leave his home in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, unless for a bail hearing.

Bill Cosby has been found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in his home in 2004

Upon Steele's request to have Cosby's bail revoked, Judge O'Neill asked: 'What is it that you're saying will occur? That he will flee? What evidence do you have …to revoke the bail of an individual who has shown up for every single hearing over the past two years.'
Steele argued: 'The defense said at the beginning that $3.38million is nothing to him.
'I don't think any amount of bail can assure his presence under these circumstances. We ask that bail be revoked.'

Asked where he thought Cosby would go, Steele said: 'Anywhere. He has a plane.'
At this Cosby yelled that 'he doesn't have a plane you a**hole!'
O'Neill called for order but went on to berate Steele, who has not made any move to have bail raised throughout the past two years for seeking to have it revoked.
He said: 'Based upon his age and his medical condition I'm not going to simply lock him up at this stage.'

O'Neill said that Cosby was not to leave the courthouse until they had determined that the court held his passport but said that there was no reason why he should not then return home on the $1 million.
O'Neill told him he was not to leave his home unless for a bail hearing.
After the court cleared Cosby stood, huddled with his defense. He walked out aided by spokesman Andrew Wyatt and flanked by court officer.
When asked about Cosby's outburst in court later, Steele said: 'I guess you got to see a brief view of who he was. That's just him acting out. I think everybody got to see who he really is when each of those prior bad act witnesses got to testify.
'The guy was an actor for a long time and it was an act. It was an act. We got to see who he really was.'

Polytechnic & University of Ibadan Students: The New Face Of Prostitution In The City Of Ibadan

$

Prostitution! It is the oldest profession in the world; from   before Deliliah’s seductive ways with Samson in Bible times, in a dark corner at Mokola bus stop in Ibadan. Women, selling their bodies for money; some pushed into this nefarious profession out of poverty, some, out of sheer greed and some others, simply for the love of sex. In this piece, we explore the lives students in tertiary institutions in Ibadan city, particularly Poly Ibadan and university of Ibadan students who now appear more remarkable in their runs for men and money than their primary purpose of acquiring quality education.

Inundated with reports of the escapades and prostitution of the female students in Ibadan, our reporter moved around some clubs and bars, disguising as a client in need of a sex merchant for the night –– to scrutinise the veracity or otherwise of the reports.  His findings revealed that while most of the ‘runs’ girls in Ibadan are students of the University of Ibadan, the Oyo State government has for years been handicapped in containing indecency in the State.

His first point of call was Options bar, a cool spot positioned in the heart of Bodija. While some were already set and looking forward to land clients, others were seen changing the clothes they had worn from their hostels into skimpy attires or applying make-ups at the roadside.

 Welcome to Sodom and Gomorrah

While Oyo State is tagged as ‘The pacesetter State’, Africa’s largest city is not setting a good pace in areas of decency.

A tall, dark-skinned and pretty twenty-two-year-old lady –– whom I later new as Laura –– was keen to land a patron for the night, her eyes tossed vigilantly scanning the newcomers. When requested how much her business fetched every night, she was hesitant at first. “Why you dey ask? You wan do?” she threw back. It was important to encourage her to assume that I was a soon-to-be client, so discussions were opened with a bottle of wine which encouraged her to sit with me.

For short time, meaning a round of intercourse with her, she would accept as low as N1500. “But if you want to enjoy yourself well, well, touch br***t, smooch body, you go add N1000 to make am N2500.” We haggled and she reduced it to N2000. Spending a night with Laura will take nothing less than N4000. “That mean say, you go enjoy till daybreak”, she said patronizingly, blinking her romantic eyes.

It was Wednesday night,  young ladies were seen in skimpy and provocative clothes smoking and drinking irresponsibly; some twisted their body to the music blasting from the big sound system mounted on a stage; while others were seen swinging their hips to entice customers.

Laura, who hails from Rivers State, is a 400-level Agricultural Science student at the University of Ibadan. According to her, she gets as much as N7,000 on a good night, while she goes home with a minimum N3,000 when market is bad, adding that she concluded to “do runs” because she needed money to complete her studies.

In spite of advices from religious bodies, parents and media on the risk of commercial sex working among the female gender, some are still obdurate. The rise and increase of brothels in Ibadan and its environs has been swift and distinct in the last few years. Dugbe Queens Cinema, Bodija and Oremeji Road are some of the worst affected areas.

GQ Lounge and 411night club are next to each other; they are sited just before Elewure bus stop along Bodija road. Innumerable ladies were seen standing both inside and out the clubs with their short stem skirt and bum short, soliciting men and money. A few were seen standing beside some cars waiting for the owner of the cars if they could carry them home for a night. There is also another club local at the T-junction along secretary road, Bodija. The activities of these commercial sex workers always cause hold up in that area as they stand on both sides of the roads touting men and money.

A further walk through the vicinity offers you more embarrassment. They hoot, call and even drag you: “Come now, na me call you first, you no know me again? Come, I go do you well, come and enjoy yourself.” If you are casually dressed, they call you student, otherwise, they call you oga or fine man.”

At D’Rovans Hotel, I had barely sat before a young lady, who simply gave her name as Lola, took her seat beside me and requested for a bottle of beer. I oblige and began conversing. As I was talking with the Lola, five plump and voluptuous ladies in tank tops and bum shorts swaggered their round waist past us. Findings revealed that the ladies were students the University of Ibadan.

Like the popular saying goes, time is money. Lola, a student of Ibadan Polytechnic, was clearly not ready for a chat as she wanted to get down to action at once. Her eyes darted around sizing up everything in trousers as she told me to come to her room and I obliged. According to Tolu, “N2500, and that is the final price for ‘short time’ but she is ready to collect N2000 if I am ready. I offer to pay her the full N2500 for a ten-minute talk as an alternative for sex. She agreed.

When asked why she is into such business, she said “I have no parents, and my uncle is not ready to assist me. I would have ventured into a small business but that will also require capital, which I don’t have. It is not that I enjoy sleeping around, but man must survive.” Advised to get a job and then further her education on a part-time basis, she said no. She, however, showed some penitence when I reeled out some of the dangers involved in the ‘runs’.

Findings revealed that sex workers are ready to accept between N1500 and N2500 for short time if you meet them in their rooms as they make more money when patrons come to their rooms rather than using a hotel room.

Under the pretense of patronage, I approach one more sex worker to discern more on how the sex workers are faring with such profession, Nabilah said: “Things are truly bad now. During Jonathan administration, we enjoyed a lot. But since Buhari came to power, everyone has been broke and patronage has dropped severely. My brother, my bill for ST is N2000 but how much you wan pay? Make we go talk for my room.”

Despite Laws, Prostitution Thrives In Nigeria

In Nigeria, the prostitution laws are vague. Sections 223, 224, and 225 of the Nigerian Criminal Code try to put pimps/madams, underage prostitution and the establishment of brothels in check. These laws mainly apply to Southern Nigeria which is regarded as the more liberal section of the country.

In the Northern part of the country, the firm grip of Sharia Law outlaws and forbids prostitution. In some Northern states like Kano prostitution still exists on shadowy, dark roads outside the state capital.

In 2011, the then Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu asked the Nigerian Senate to consider making prostitution legal. Nothing much came out of this.

Residents groan, tired of living with prostitutes

At Dugbe, Abiola Ogunbola condemned in totality the way of life of the girls, adding that their lifestyle would have grave implications on their children.

“I feel concerned about this runs girls all over the city, but I don’t have any solution to the problem because it is their life. I must say, the kind of life these girls live is an embarrassment to womanhood. They wear indecent clothes exposing their bodies to everyone in a display of what they represent.

“There is a need for government to tackle prostitution in the city; perhaps let them stop them from living with normal people, they should live in an isolated environment instead of living among responsible individuals for the safety of our children.”

Another resident at Iwo road, Bidemi Abimbola, gave reasons why a section of the place is called ‘Angle 90’ and her wish to leave the environment:  “This place is known as ‘angle 90’ simply because of prostitutes who live here.  I can tell say that the population of prostitutes here is higher than other individuals. To be frank with you, I am tired of the environment and will soon vacate this place.”

A resident at close to the popular D’rovans hotels expressed irritation on the rate of prostitution in the city. ” How do you explain a lady taking to prostitution as a means of livelihood?

“It is just too terrible and as well very sinful. To counsel them is not easy since they have become hard-edged. They didn’t just start the trade today. When you call them to advise them, they will abuse you and ask you if you will shoulder their responsibilities.”

A civil servant who pleaded anonymity stated that brothels within residential areas are an eyesore which should be eradicated. She said that the presence of brothels in residential and school areas is harmful to education and development.

Without a doubt, the Oyo State government needs to swing into action of tackling street prostitution in the state.

Chantel Nicole Beverly, 30, a 5th Grade Teacher and Shavonia Peterson, 33, Exceptional Education Teacher walked down the aisle on April 7, at The Yacht Club, Marina Shores Virginia Beach, VA

"I walked into a club one summer night in 2011, she had no idea she'd find the love of her life, Shavonia, on the dance floor. But that's exactly what happened. Seven years later they tied the knot and their gorgeous nuptials will move you," said Chantel.

"Being a bride felt like I was on cloud 9," admitted Chantel. "After I got past the nervousness part, it was the best feeling in the world. I felt so beautiful and so loved. There were a few overwhelming moments but for the most part, it was wonderful."
It took awhile for me to find 'the one,'" said Chantel.

"Shavonia is very interesting. She’s actually the opposite of me. I’m more optimistic and she’s more realistic. I’m very outgoing and she’s more reserved. She’s very organized and I could be all over the place sometimes. However, she’s my perfect match. She’s loving, caring and will do anything for those she holds near and dear to her heart. She is the yin to my yang.

Chantel reveals that there were no frills about how Shavonia proposed, and that's what made it sweeter.

"It was a very simple proposal. Nothing fancy at all. On Thursday, December 15, 2011 she came in the house after working and was acting weird. She grabbed my hand and was shaking nervously and then got down on one knee and told me how much she loved me and how much I have inspired her and asked me to marry her."

"My wife and I met at an LGBT club named, Colors. I can remember it like it was yesterday," said Shavonia.

"It was a hot summer night on Saturday, July 23, 2011. It was interesting because I had not gone there in years a and I randomly decided to go with a friend that night. I was at the bar and I saw her from across the room. I was attracted to her instantly and repeatedly glanced in her direction. I felt our eyes meet one another and she came over to me. She asked, 'What you doing up in here, are you a lesbian?' She thought I was straight and didn’t believe me. That night we danced the night away and exchanged numbers after the let out. She called me and we talked on the phone for hours like we were teenagers. The following week we went on a date and the rest was history. We were inseparable. I chose to make Chantel my wife because she is truly the most selfless and kind-hearted person I know," said Shavonia of her bride.

"She loves with her whole heart. She’s loyal to all of her friends and family. She motivates me and inspires me to be the best woman I can be. I love how loving, patient and selfless Chantel is. I love how she stays firm in what she believes in. Whatever Chantel wants, she lets nothing stand in her way of getting it. She has literally made me a better woman."

An unconfirmed report stated that his death might not be unconnected with hypertension, which he was said to have been managing for some time.

The Majority Leader, Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Kehinde Subair, who confirmed the death, betrayed emotions as he spoke with journalists on phone on Friday morning, saying: “His death came as a rude shock to us because he never showed any sign of ill health. He drove himself home from the office the day he died, and the report get to us later that he slumped and all efforts to revive him proved abortive. Till now, we are still in shock.”

But Alli took time to attend to journalists, saying an official statement would be released by the government on the death of the Speaker.

Michael Adeyemo was born on November 22, 1972, and hailed from Lanlate in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo state.

Alli said that State Governor Ajimobi would be in the office soon and he would be taking questions from the media.

Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in the state, Mr Toye Arulogun, was heard on a radio programme on Friday morning during which he confirmed the death and promised that a statement would soon be issued on the incident.

Adeyemo, who would have clocked 47 years on November 22, was elected into the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2011 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when he was working in the Law Hub, which is the Law Chambers of Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), who is the present governor of Ondo State.

Adeyemo was reelected in 2015.

The deceased lost his wife during his first term in the state House of Assembly on his birthday in 2013.

Adeyemo left behind two boys who are below 10 years old.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Friday morning paid sympathy visits to the House of Assembly to commiserate with the lawmakers.

The NULGE chairman in Oyo State, Mr Titilola Sodo, described the death as a shock, saying Speaker Adeyemo was a vibrant man.

Europe based Igbo man has alleged that their maid was refused admission into Festac secondary school on the ground that they only admit indigenes of Lagos State.

Mr Arinze who resides in Madrid, Spain asked his wife to take their maid to the nearby secondary school in Festac so that she could get some glimpses of education. Getting to the school, he alleges that the school management told his wife that they only admit indigenes of Lagos state.

You would recall that February this year the Governor of Lagos state, His Excellency  Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode formally signed a bill into law “to provide for the preservation and promotion of the use of Yoruba Language and for connected purposes,” thereby making it the first state to enact law seeking to preserve and promote its indigenous language.

The Yoruba language preservation law made it compulsory for all primary and secondary schools – private or public – in the state to include the teaching of Yoruba Language as a core subject at all levels. According to the government, violation of the law will attract a fine of N500,000 or complete closure of the school.

More also, candidates seeking admission into all tertiary institutions in Lagos state must henceforth possess a credit in the Yoruba Language.

However, whether the new law which was trailed with mixed reactions has snowballed into discrimination of students in regard to admission or the management of the government-owned schools are using it to deprive indigenes of other states is yet unknown.

Actress Ibinabo Fiberesima took to her Instagram page to share her side of the story and also plead for forgiveness in the accident which she was involved in that claimed the life of a medical doctor 12 years ago.

In the very lengthy post, Ibinabo said she is not a killer and didn't drive under the influence of alcohol on the unfortunate day of the accident.

Ms Ibinabo also revealed she was depressed and had suicidal thoughts but is currently receiving treatments.

This post was prompted by the backlash she got after she revealed she is interested in running for political office. Read what she wrote below

My dearest friends and followers, I greet you this blessed Friday. Most of you may have heard about my sad story of the accident that caused the life of a beautiful and amazing human, Dr Suraj Giwa. For 12 years, I have remained silent; internally mourning, grieving and praying that time would heal his family and mine. Through those years of my silence, stories were manufactured in the mainstream and social media about the accident. There were so many stories. My character was assassinated. I did not tell my story. Nobody heard from me, until now. Please take few moments to read the next posts as I share my story of what really happened and seek forgiveness, peace for both families. I finally got the courage to tell my story to Azuka Jebose. It was a burden lifted off my soul. As you read, please continue to pray for the soul of Late Giwa, his family and my family. Thank you for your support and prayers. God bless you. May the soul of Dr Suraj Giwa continue to be at peace. Amen

MY STORY

DEAR NIGERIA, I AM SORRY.” “ Dear Azuka,
I greet you. Thank you for allowing me to respond to your recent post here about my political ambition and the fatal accident of 2006. I need to tell my story. I stayed silent for so long and watched as my life, character and person were being ruined in published reports, including social media. This is my story, told for the first time on a social media platform.

My heart has never stopped aching. It will not. An accident took the life of someone. I am forever in mourning because of this. Two families’ lives have been changed forever with this unfortunate fatal accident. It was an accident. Dr. Suraj Giwa didn’t have to die. I wished I could bring him back. I am sorry for the pains caused. I have also been maligned and disparaged in the media: I am a monster. I am a killer and a murderer, I am a drunk... No. Azuka. I am none of these.
I am just another human being that was in a deadly accident and the accident caused the death of Dr. Suraj Giwa.

Dr Giwa
Dr Giwa

It’s been 12 years of heartache, pain and depression for me. My eyes are rivers of tears.
Some days I feel like killing myself. Life has no meaning to me.
I think about Dr. Giwa every day. I pray for his soul and I pray and seek forgiveness from his family for the pain and agony. I am very sorry.
It didn’t have to happen. I wished I knew it would happen that unfortunate day, I would not have travelled that road. I was not drunk that day.

Azuka, I was driving along Lekki road, returning home after picking up a friend’s daughter from a church Fellowship. Suddenly, a red car overtook the SUV in front of me. The SUV was travelling slowly, so I shifted to its front, too. The red vehicle was being driven by a young man and had his friends with him…I drove past the red car. I think that might have angered the young chap because he swiftly sped from behind, drove past me and made a sudden stop in my front.

I tried to avoid hitting those boys in the red car. I swerved and lost control in that moment, the impact dived my vehicle into inbound lane.. Dr. Giwa was inbound, thus he drove into my car and both cars collided. I collapsed and passed out.. Three days later, I WOKE UP IN A HOSPITAL bed to learn what had happened. I was weak, sore and in pains. I could not move my legs. I had been sedated for three days. Doctors said they had to sedate me to numb my pain. Meanwhile, the police had been informed that I was in that hospital. The Lagos State Police came to the hospital to take my statement of what happened. After I gave them my statement, I was arrested at the hospital and charged to court.

At my court appearance for hearing, the judge noticed how sick, weak, incoherent an disoriented I was: he also saw my injuries. He ordered that I should be sent back to the hospital for further treatment until I was well enough to stand trial. I could not walk then.

Later at the hospital, I woke up from coma and to reality. I was afraid and shocked. I could not believe I was involved in an accident that had taken a life. I was like: Wow!..Someone died in that accident. Oh my God!. I didn’t know the family. While I was in the hospital my family contacted the family of Late dr. Giwa who died in the accident. My family was there for the funeral and did everything during the mourning season. I was afraid. But I met them in court and tried to approach them. I understood the anger and pain I had caused them, so I accepted their anger toward me….his sister was really angry at me… I wanted to talk to her… it was hard for me to get close to her… I understood all these: the pain and distress they felt as a result of the accident. I felt their pain. I wanted to tell them how sorry and remorseful I was… It was an accident. I did not intend to wake up that morning, went out and had a fatal collision.
Weeks later, I was arraigned. I attended all my court appearances. During the process, I visited the family and attempted several times to make peace. I never ignored them. I am always sorry. I know the pain is tough, so I understood their anger but I kept begging. I am sorry.

I am sorry. I had gone to so many good people and friends to assist me in pleading for forgiveness from the family. One of such friends is late Iyalode of Lagos. She assisted me in begging the Giwa family: when I became well and able to walk, she took me to The former Imam of Lagos and the Present Oba of Lagos: these traditional and religious leaders begged on my behalf, pleading with the family for forgiveness and showed how sorry and remorseful I was that the accident happened. I never ran away from the scene of the accident.
I was unconscious.
How could an unconscious accident victim remove plate license and registration papers from the vehicle as reported in the media? Why would I do a thing like that? How could I have done a thing like that?

I became a monster in the eyes of everyone. So I thought suicide was the best option to end all these and find peace for my family and Dr. Giwa’s family. I lost myself.
I was no longer Ibinabo.
I didn’t know who I was.
I became a stranger to myself and my family, afraid of life and living, scarred by and scared of human beings.
I withdrew and became clinically depressed.

I could not take care of my children. I was dying.
Azuka, I was dying. Life had no meaning to me. I became a lonely zombie: a mother that could not care for her children, distressed, disturbed and severely depressed.

I was sent to Kirikiri female Prison. I wanted to die there. I accepted to end it.
But one preacher came to the prison and preached to us. It was like he was talking to me. During his sermon, I fainted… I was revived by prisoners that attended the service. When I woke up, I was soaked in water and the prisoners gathered around me… I asked what happened and they told me I had Passed out during the service.. That opened my eyes. I asked myself then: Ibinabo, do you really want to die?. I said no. I must turn my life to purpose-driven, to rescue the weak and helped those that society had turned against. I held onto God. I told Him it was up to Him. I didn’t want to see any lawyer again, I had no money. My family bailed me out after three months and three days…. I came out to pursue the appeal…
I was living my simple life…I engaged in works with youths in my village. I enjoy spending time in my town. They know me there. They love me there… I was on my way to a funeral when my lawyer called me.. Earlier the previous day, I called to inform him I would be out of town and hoped the appeal date would not be scheduled while I was out of town.
He said no. I told him I didn’t want the court to think I jumped bail… He called me on my way to the funeral, the next day and said the court date was actually that morning. I had to hurry back to court.
I lost the appeal. I was shocked.

My lawyer did not understand what was going on. That day, I was taken back to Kirikiri maximum security prison… that was 2016…

While at Kirikiri, I discovered I had a lump in my breast. I had to do surgery… when I was released, I went to the village so that I would not break down and collapse into depression again…
Yes, I want to serve my people. I want to be positive and impact people’s lives. And yes, Azuka, I remember that this sad situation is still here…
I do not know who else to talk to…

I do not know what else to do. I need help…
The family sued me for N200Million in a civil case…
Where will I get that money from?. So we have been negotiating to see where we can get to so I can begin making payment by instalment.

We have agreed to settle out of court… we are not there yet. It’s a process… Though I have appealed this case to the Supreme Court, what is important to me now is making peace with the family: that is more important because it will heal me… his family and I would have peace.

Azuka I am not a bad person. I do not know what else to do. People think I am a murderer. I am not. I am not. Azuka, free me….Free me… It was an unfortunate accident. I didn’t do it intentionally. That’s all I have been begging…
I have begged…I do not know what to do…I am truly sorry it happened…

I am not running for any political office. My people wanted me. A group of youths from my place asked me to run for office, I said no. They went and printed poster and placed it on social media. So I endorsed it.

Eventually, I must live. I have to do things to my fulfillment, to what God wants me to do; to be able to help youths help people generally… Life in Okrika is not easy… I need to help the youths believe in themselves… they are aching.. In my region, simple things of life are a struggle to get. I need to change their mindset that there is alternative way to Life… I have become a seeker of peace for my people… Life hasn’t been a bed of roses… But I must deal with this issue. I seek forgiveness from the family and peace of mind. I need to find closure and peace.… I am not a killer… I care too much… I am a caring person. I put myself in the shoes of Giwa’s family and I can understand their pains. I am very sorry for the loss of life of Dr. Giwa. I am. I am not arrogant.

I never, ever said to his family that I would not offer a public apology.
I was offered to do a public service announcement across the country with regards to Driving While Impaired. I said if I did that, it then meant I accepted I was drunk when I drove my car. I wasn’t drunk. I would do anything but that. I wasn’t drunk… they assumed because I owned a nightclub in the past, so I must be an alcoholic.

This is exactly the truth. It’s not fair to admit that I was drunk.
The police did not arrest me for drunk driving. The court never charged me with drunk driving.. There were reckless and dangerous driving charges.
Those were what I was charged by the court…. I was not charged with manslaughter.
Not murder…

My pains through the years include: Bouts of depression Attempted suicide I Had surgeries in my breast to remove lumps. I cannot do a lot. This unfortunate experience has affected my job prospects. I am unemployable I have stopped acting for a while. I just do charity works.. I am not flamboyant. Dear Nigeria, I am sorry. I will forever regret what happened.
Giwa was a father, husband and son. He was the sole and sole provider of his family. I feel terrible he died in an accident which I was involved. I feel really bad. I am sorry. I need prayers. Please pray for me and the soul of Giwa and his family.

I know I have found God through this experience. But I still need help. I am receiving therapy for my depression and suicidal thoughts… I am able to share these with you.. I am healing… one moment at a time.I am not a killer. I am not a murderer. I am not an alcoholic. I did not drive while intoxicated. I was involved in an accident that resulted in death and for that, I am very sorry. I have had periods of feeling miserable in the last 12years as a result of this accident. I need to find peace. I seek forgiveness. I am sorry... Thank you" ** As told to Azuka Jebose

Read late Dr. Suraj Giwa’s Sister’s Open Letter on Ibinabo Fiberesima’s Sentence

Open Letter from Dr Suraj Giwa‘s sister Biola Giwa-Adeyemi.

***

First of all, the case was between Lagos state Government Vs Ibinabo Febresima but not Giwa Vs Ibinabo Febresima (Fiberesima). On this fateful day of February 26, 2006 along the Lekki Epe Expressway, my late brother Dr Giwa was driving with his brother and another family friend in his car coming from a meeting in Ajah, they were held up in a traffic around the evening time, when this tragic accident happened.

Ibinabo was driving towards Lekki while the late Dr Giwa was coming from the other direction facing towards Island, just by shop-rite, when ibinabo’s jeep flipped and lost control from her lane jumped over the culvert or pavement that demarcate the road from the on coming vehicle.

The speed that skipped and flipped a jeep over the road demarcation will be considered ‘Reckless and Endangerment‘ because the VIO dept checked the jeep brakes, the engine and all the mechanical and electrical of the jeep but the result shows nothing wrong with the jeep and confirm that the accident as due to ‘OVER SPEEDING‘ in which the result was on record.

After the accident, Ibinabo left the scene of the accident without checking for any survivors, she took the license plate and registration out of the car and fled from the scene, that was considered “HIT AND RUN”. The people at the scene of the accident recognized her as Ibinabo Febresima, and stated she was drunk.”Driving Under Influence” of whatever she had.

The State Department of Transportation has to use the VIN number to locate the Owner of the jeep, in which the owner was Daniel Wilson. That was my very first time of hearing the name of Ibinabo Febresima. The Doctor died at the scene of the accident because the jeep was on top of the Honda accord driven by him and they couldn’t save him on time because of the seat belt and the weight of the jeep, the brother and the other family friend in that car had survived. Did she know the state of mind and the emotional instability of the people involved in that accident up till now, Ibinabo has never been in a Comma.

After all the evidences against her, with the result of the VIO by the State department of Transportation, The DPP office took over and charged her to court and she hired Festus Keyamo in which after reviewing the case he withdrew by saying he cannot represent her because it’s a bad case.

Doctor Giwa has a living mother for goodness sake, wife with 3 children, Ibinabo deprived him from seeing his children graduate from university and getting married, also from being the one to bury his mother at her old age, ‘Whereas no one ever prayed that on the day of their children’s success and happiness they should replaced them with someone else’.

Ibinabo was never remorseful, they brought her to meet with me shortly after my brother’s death in GRA Ikeja before my return back to the USA, but her only concern then was to drop the charges against her. I told her that it’s not my family Vs her but the State Vs her, that where I come from in USA that we do not interfere with the justice system, that they should do their job and advise her to apologize publicly to the masses and to the family and throw herself to the mercy of the court.

She said and l quote “I CAN’T DO THAT, BECAUSE IS GOING TO DAMAGE MY CAREER” what an ego, she cannot apologize publicly, I feel like kicking her ass. She’s worried about her stupid career, What happened to the career of the Doctor, who happened to be a ‘MEDICAL DIRECTOR AND THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL REHABILITATION MEDICINE AT GENERAL HOSPITAL LAGOS.

People say there is no justice in Nigeria, but it does once in awhile. The lower court magistrate O.A Isaac found her guilty with the option of 100,000.00 Naira, which is considered a judicial recklessness, 100k does not even buy an iPad, the life of someone does not worth more that 100k, so that people will take the liberty of committing crimes.

Later, Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of the High court found her guilty and overturn the option of fine and gave her 5 yrs in prison, she spent 3 weeks and came out on bail to go to Court of Appeal, however, how can a convicted person came out on bail, here in USA you will be in jail and they will transport you to and from each time you have an hearing. Finally Appeal court found her guilty and sentence her to 5 years in prison.

Let her face the wrath, it is said that you can run but can’t hide, it’s a law of Kama that catches up, this will serve as a deterrent to others. Who will believe after 10yrs she will still be slammed, The Family of the late Dr Giwa had moved on with our life’s, She was forgiven, it was very difficult and painful, but God gave us especially his mother and children the fortitude to bear the loss.

On behalf of our families and friends, we really thank the Lagos State Government, The attorney general Mr Sasore, DPP Mrs Odutola and colleagues, Justice Deborah Oluwayemi, Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur, Justice U.I Udukwe-Anyawu and Justice Tijani Abubakar and everyone for their support, no evil shall befall anyone, as you all go out and come in, may God’s grace and protection abide with each and everyone.

‘JUSTICE AT LAST’ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUSTICE AT LAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUSTICE IS FINALLY DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!.

“IBINABO HAS NEVER PAID A DIME TO ANY FAMILY MEMBER OF THE LATE DR GIWA AS INDICATED BY HER FRIEND’S, AND IF SHE DID PAY ANY FAMILY MEMBER, SHE NEEDS TO START MENTIONING NAMES NOW”
