A Nigerian couple residing in the United Kingdom have died ten days apart after contracting the deadly Coronavirus.
Dr.James Oniah, a 79-year-old retired radiologist, died on April 24 after battling with the virus while his wife, 61-year-old Mary, who is a care home director, died on May 4. .

It is believed that Mrs Oniah contracted the virus during her job as a Regional Director for a care home provider before her 79-year-old husband was also struck down. They both died at King George Hospital in Ilford, East London.
One of the three children of the couple, Oke Oniah, told UK press that his family is still coming to terms with their tragic deaths.

.
Late Dr. Oniah hailed from Onitsha in Anambra state and had studied at the University of Sussex. He worked in several hospitals as an agency radiologist before recently retiring.
His wife, late Mary trained as a nurse and a midwife at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka, Zambia and St Georges and Roehampton University Teaching Hospital in South London and palliative care nursing at City, University of London.

Nigerian couple jailed for sexually and physically abusing a girl and a boy in the U.K

A Nigerian couple living in Rochdale, U.K., has been jailed for 15 years for a string of child abuse and sexual assault counts after appearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court today (Friday 15 May), whilst a woman living at the same address has been jailed for four years for her role in the crimes.
In July 2018, police were made aware that a young girl had reported being abused by Shola Ogundare, 49, and Olwafunmilayo Emmanuel, 35.
An investigation was launched and officers established that the girl had been physically and sexually abused by Ogundare and physically abused by Emmanuel. Enquiries also established that a young boy had been physically abused by Ogundare and Emmanuel.
Ogundare and Emmanuel were arrested and taken into police custody for questioning. They were subsequently charged and pleaded not guilty.

Following a one-week trial, a jury found Ogundare guilty of attempted rape of a child, sexual assault by penetration of a child, sexual assault by touching of a child, causing a child to watch a sexual act, cruelty to a person under 16 and four counts of assault. Emmanuel was found guilty of four counts of cruelty to a person under 16, and sentenced to four years in prison.
Detective Constable Russell Clarke, of GMP’s Rochdale district, said: “First and foremost I would like to commend the victims for their strength in seeking help and disclosing what had happened to them. Both children have demonstrated incredible courage throughout our investigation and this trial, especially considering their age.
“Abuse of this kind often has a long-lasting impact on victims but I sincerely hope that they can move forward with their lives – free from the fear of being abused.
“Ogundare subjected these children to a prolonged campaign of abuse. Under the pretence of punishment, he sexually abused one of the victims to satisfy his most repulsive desires. Throughout this investigation, he has shown no remorse and the things he has said to try to evade justice have been beyond comprehension.
“Emmanuel also subjected the children to physical abuse and has also shown no remorse. She has repeatedly defended Ogundare and tried to discredit the victims.
“I hope today’s result sends a clear message to members of the public and offenders alike that police officers will do everything in their power to see justice done.”

Free Bus Travel For Children Axed As Part Of TfL Bailout

Jeremy Corbyn plans free bus travel for 322,000 Birmingham ...
The congestion charge is set to increase to £15 and operate seven days a week until 10pm after the Government bailed out TfL. Free travel for children is temporarily scrapped as is travel in the morning and evening rush hours to Freedom Pass holders.

As part of the deal to provide emergency funding to prevent imminent collapse as fair revenue hit the floor, the central government have levied a number of conditions. The increase to 10pm is “temporary” and raises the question of whether a future candidate could promise to scale it back at elections in 2020.

These measures are likely enforced by central Government to help the conservative candidate in next years election. In recent days Shaun Bailey has highlighted TfL’s poor finances through continually failed to mention that George Osborne cut £700 million a year in funding which is now taking full effect.

Financing TfL has turned into petty political point-scoring which now threatens the transport system of a major world city and source of wealth for the UK’s economy.

TfL was already one of the very few cities across the world that had seen operating assistance from central government entirely cut. At the same time, all revenue from drivers in London via vehicle excise duty was sent to central Government to be spent across the country but not in London. It’s possible schemes like ULEZ were sped up to plug this gap.

Income from ULEZ and the congestion charge do not cover costs of maintaining roads, and so that meant tube users were subsiding drivers. There is nowhere else in the world where public transport users subsidise drivers.

Other measures that may be enforced as part of the bailout include ending free fares for certain groups and increasing fares above inflation. How this tallies with the central Government’s aims to get people out of cars, limit congestion and encourage public transport in the mid to long term remains to be seen.

It would seem political games and hampering a Labour mayor are taking precedence over a general economic recovery after the current upheaval.

For an excellent look into the situation, TfL found themselves in and how close they came to legally being obliged to make heavy cuts without a bailout, read this excellent article on London Reconnections.

There’s been a lot of stories in recent days across many tabloids about threats from Sadiq Khan on axing services without a bailout. The reality is TfL was close to collapse and by law would have to decimate services. For all the things wrong with TfL – and there are quite a few – no transport authority in the world can operate with income down 90 per cent. Thus they had to agree to any terms on the table when talking to the government.

Chinese Man Finds Out His Twin Babies Have Two Different Fathers After DNA Test

A Chinese man (not the one pictured) is left stunned as he discovered that his infant twins have two fathers, a DNA analyst who conducted the paternity test has revealed. In the file picture above, a father takes a nap with his twins in a shop on August 28, 2006, in Wuhan.

'First, the mother needs to produce two eggs instead of one in the same month [to have twins],' Ms Deng, who is also the director of Beijing Zhongzheng Forensic Identification Centre, explained to China News Weekly.

'Second, she needs to have intercourse with two men in a really short space of time to make it possible.

'The results showed that the children have the same mother but not the same father.

They have at least two fathers,' Ms Deng suggested.

Twins being born with different fathers is an extremely rare occurrence known as heteropaternal superfecundation.

Women usually have to have sex with two different men within a day before or after ovulation for both eggs to be fertilised.

Self-Employment Income Support Scheme opens for applications

The SEISS claims service is now open

The Government’s scheme to support the self-employed is now open for claims.
Self-employed individuals or members of partnerships whose business has been adversely affected by coronavirus are now able to apply for a Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) grant worth 80% of their average monthly trading profits.
Millions are expected to benefit from the scheme with the payments – to be paid in a single instalment covering three months and capped at £7,500 – expected to land in bank accounts within six working days of each claim.
Everyone eligible for the SEISS will be able to receive the government grant by 25 May, or within six days of a completed claim.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, said: “We’re working ahead of time to deliver support to the self-employed and applications are now open for the millions of people eligible for the scheme.
“With payments arriving before the end of this month, self-employed across the UK will have money in their pockets to help them through these challenging times.”
People will be able to make their claim on a specified date between 13-18 May, based on their Unique Tax Reference number. HMRC has assigned eligible self-employed individuals a specific date to apply on and this can be checked on HMRC’s online checker.
The SEISS is part of a comprehensive package of support for self-employed people, including Bounce Back loans, income tax deferrals, rental support, increased levels of Universal Credit, mortgage holidays and the various business support schemes the government has introduced to protect businesses during this time.
Derek Cribb, CEO of IPSE (the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed) said: “For the self-employed, Coronavirus is not only a health crisis, but also a pressing income crisis. It is therefore very welcome that the Government has managed to get this new scheme in place ahead of schedule, and that a section of the freelance community can now get the help they need early. We are delighted that the government has heeded much of IPSE’s advice by setting up the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme, which extends a much-needed lifeline to those self-employed people who are eligible for it.”
Mike Cherry, National Chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “The self-employment income support scheme represents a lifeline for the millions of self-employed people who are expected to qualify.  I would encourage all those who think they are eligible to use the online checker if they’ve not done so yet, and to apply on the date allocated.
“We are particularly pleased to see the scheme opening earlier than scheduled, with a simple fast-track application and a promise for speedy payment.  Getting the system designed and built ahead of schedule is impressive.  Just like the Job Retention Scheme portal we hope it will cope with the high expected demand.  I would like to pay tribute to the staff of HMRC for the behind the scenes work to get this scheme off the ground.”
Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the Federation of Master Builders said: “The self-employed account for 40% of the construction workforce so the Government’s decision to bring forward the payment to the end May will be very welcome news for the many independent tradespeople who operate in construction. The Government’s support package to date has been targeted at businesses so the self-employed will be welcoming this cash boost at a time when they need it most.”

It Will Be Safe For Children To Go Back To School On June 1 As Pupils And Their Families Will Get Free Coronavirus Track-And Trace Tests And Be Put Into Protective ‘Class Bubbles’

$

Schools will throw a 'protective bubble' around young pupils, Gavin Williamson vowed today as he attempted to outflank furious teaching unions and reopen classrooms next month.
The Education Secretary attempted to pile pressure on opponents of his plans tonight  as he warned of the dire 'consequences if children did not start returning to school.
He made a blunt appeal to the emotions of parents tonight as he insisted planning can begin to reopen classrooms from in little more than a fortnight.
Outlining his plans for reception, year 1 and 6 - as well as years 10 and 12 - to return from June 1, he insisted 'they stand to lose more by staying away from school'.
He revealed that those who return, as well as their parents, will join teachers in being eligible for free coronavirus tests, as he outlined measures schools will take avoid a surge in the killer disease.

They include small classes and keeping children in small socially-distanced groups, with Mr Williamson saying: 'We are creating a protective bubble around them, reducing the amount of mixing and making sure that these small groups stay together, almost like a family within a classroom.'
Asked about testing and tracing, Mr Williamson added: 'School staff can already be tested for the virus, but from the first of June we'll extend that to cover children and their families if any of them develop symptoms.
'Together these measures will create an inherently safer system where the risk of transmission is substantially reduced for children, their teachers and also their families.'
However, concerns have been raised over the track and trace regime amid fears there are not enough staff to run it alongside a smartphone app.
It was the latest development in a boiling row between ministers, trade unions and local authorities over the safety of sending children back to school.
Hartlepool in County Durham joined Liverpool this morning in saying it would ignore the Government's plan to let some primary school pupils back to the school from June 1.
And the doctor's union added its weight to the opposition, saying teachers representatives are 'absolutely right' to argue it is unsafe for schools to open next month.
Britain today recorded another 468 coronavirus deaths on the first Saturday since the draconian lockdown was eased, taking the UK's official fatality toll to 34,466.
But at tonight's press conference, Mr Williamson said: 'There is a consequence to this, the longer that schools are closed the more that children miss out.
'Teachers know that there are children out there that have not spoken or played with another child their own age for the last two months.
'They know there are children from difficult or very unhappy homes for whom school is the happiest moment in their week, and it's also the safest place for them to be.'
Earlier unions were warned children cannot wait for a coronavirus vaccine to be produced before returning to school, warring teaching unions and ministers were warned today.
Children's Commissioner for England Anne Longfield demanded an end to 'squabbling', saying children were being harmed by the continued closure and they would have to return at some point - even if no cure is found.
She told Sky: 'We cannot afford to wait for a vaccine, which may never arrive, before children are back in school.'
And speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme this morning she added: 'I've looked on somewhat with despair in the last week and a half as the debate has become more and more polarised. It does seem to have descended into very entrenched views.
'My worry within all is that the needs of children and the best interests of children are disappearing from view.

Man Kidnapped And Murdered By Jealous Friend In Imo, Body Found In ...

A 21-year-old young man, identified as Micah Isaiah but also known as Leo Wire has reportedly been killed by his friend an ex-militant out of jealousy.

According to reports surrounding Isaiah’s death, he was murdered on May 12th around Willow Wood hotel in Owerri, Imo state’s capital.

Isaiah was reported to be close friends with his murderer —a supposed ex-militant— who hired some men to kidnap Isaiah after Isaiah acquired a Lexus SUV.

Killer of the young Nigeria man, Micah Isaiah also known as Leo who was murdered after being kidnapped earlier this week has been found

The friend, however, decided to kidnap Leo and then took him to Anambra State, where his Lexus es350 was sold and made away with the valuables of the deceased friend.

The suspect, that is, the jealous friend, confessed he hired people who appeared in military dress code and abducted his friend to their scene of the crime.

It’s reported that Isaiah’s friend became jealous after he bought his new car. This prompted him to kidnap Isaiah with the aid of other men who disguised themselves in military uniforms.

They forced him into “unidentified cars without plate numbers” and drove him along with his car to Anambra, where they held him hostage and demanded N4million as ransom.

Isaiah’s abductors contacted his younger brother to pay the ransome but he couldn’t afford it as he had just buried their mother — a burial Leo didn’t attend because he had been abducted.

When the men didn’t receive the ransom, they emptied Leo’s account and then killed him.

It’s reported that one of the suspects was caught while making plans to sell Isaiah’s Lexus-350 SUV. With this, they informed the SARS division in Owerri, who took action and tracked his phone, his car, and the bank account the money was transferred into.

One of the kidnappers was nabbed in the process who then took the SARS operatives to the bush where Leo’s body was dumped.

Gambari The Slap Next Time: Femi Adesina Article Against Ibrahim Gambari In 2008

Records have shown that Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in 2008, condemned Ibrahim Gambari for his support of dictatorial governments.

Mr Gambari, who was recently appointed as the new Chief of Staff to President Buhari, has come under criticism for his role in bolstering the gag on press freedom. The diplomat served as the Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and 1985 under Mr Buhari who was a military head of state then.

Also, Mr Gambari worked for the late dictator, General Sani Abacha, whose regime saw to the victimisation of journalists and activists. One of the victims of the stifling of press freedom under Abacha was Ken Saro-Wiwa, a Nigerian journalist and environmental activist, who led a nonviolent campaign against environmental degradation of the land and waters of Ogoniland by the operations of the multinational petroleum industries.

Mr Saro-Wiwa was hanged in 1995 by the military dictatorship of General Sani Abacha. However, years after the killing, Mr Gambari defended the actions of late Abacha saying the killing was in the interest of the state.

Nevertheless, in a column published on July 12, 2008, Mr Adesina lampooned Mr Gambari. The article published on page 15 of Saturday Sun was titled “Gambari: the slap next time.”

In one of the paragraphs, Mr Adesina referred to the new Chief of Staff as a man who enslaved himself to please his paymasters.

“Gambari enslaved himself to please his paymasters. Now, 13 years later, the shackles are still tied round his neck. bootlicking grovellers fail to learn.”

Reacting to this, former Presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri, shared a snippet of the column and criticised Mr Adesina who is now serving in the same administration with Mr Gambari.

Mr Omokri, who wrote on Saturday, said;

“Gambari enslaved himself to please his paymasters. Now, 13 years later, the shackles are still tied round his neck. BOOTLICKING GROVELLERS fail to learn.”- @FemAdesina on Ibrahim Gambari July 12, 2008.

Back to normal 'by July'? PM tells Tory MPs he wants to return to 'near-normality' in two months as he hails British 'good sense' over lockdown

Boris Johnson tells Tory MPs he wants to return to 'near-normality' by July
Speaking to 100 of his colleagues via video link, the Prime Minister said he would take 'grandmother steps' to ease the rules, but only if Britons comply with the current lockdown measures. He also confirmed that Commons discussions will resume on June 2.

Writing in today's Mail on Sunday, Boris Johnson (pictured left, during a televised address to the nation in which he unveiled his 'conditional plan' to reopen Britain) also announces that an Oxfordshire research centre will be opening a year ahead of schedule in an attempt to fast-track a vaccine against the coronavirus, the number of deaths from the virus per day in the UK). Mr Johnson's exclusive article will be seen as an attempt to draw a line under the chaotic days in Westminster which followed his televised address to the nation last Sunday, which left many people confused about the rules about meeting friends and family.

Prime Minister clarifies today: 'You can now spend as much time as you like outdoors, for example sitting and enjoying the fresh air, picnicking, or sunbathing. You can meet one other person from a different household outdoors, provided you maintain social distancing. You can exercise outdoors as often as you wish and play sport. Even with these changes, it's vital that people stay alert, keep their distance from others and carry on washing their hands regularly'.

An MP listening in on the video call told The Sun: 'Boris told us he is determined that the country should be as close to normality again before the end of July.
'But he was clear that it all depends on the country meeting the conditions that have been set for tackling the virus.
'Most importantly that means bringing down the infection rate – and that can only be achieved if we continue to obey the rules on social distancing to help stop it spreading.'
In other developments to the coronavirus crisis:
  • Britain announced 468 more coronavirus deaths on the first Saturday since lockdown was eased - taking the country's total fatalities to 34,466;
  • Mr Johnson and the UK's top civil servant Sir Mark Sedwill are said to have clashed over who is responsible for implementing the Government's coronavirus plan;
  • A new Opinium survey showed public approval for the Government's handling of the crisis has fallen by nine points in a single week;
  • Cafes, pubs and restaurants will be able to open as street stalls in weeks, in an attempt to boost the economy;
  • Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) scientists are looking into new guidelines for how workers can cope with occasionally coming into contact with each other;
  • Scuffles between police and anti-lockdown protestors broke out in Hyde Park and across the UK;
  • The row between ministers and teachers' unions intensified after Children's Commissioner for England Anne Longfield said that schools had to be reopened as quickly as possible;
  • Public Health England could face the axe after Boris Johnson told a meeting of 1922 Committee of backbench Tory MPs that he he was planning a review of 'a number of institutions' once coronavirus is beaten back;
  • Experts from King's College London have suggested that one in three patients who fall severely ill with coronavirus develop deadly blood clots that trigger heart attacks, strokes and organ failure.
  • China’s claims that the pandemic emerged from a wild animal market in Wuhan last December have been challenged by a landmark scientific study
The British government will invest up to £93million to accelerate the construction of a new vaccines centre, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said on Saturday.
The funding will ensure the new centre opens in Summer 2021, a year ahead of schedule, the department said.
The Vaccines Manufacturing and Innovation Centre (VMIC), which is currently under construction, is a key component of the government's programme to ensure that once a coronavirus vaccine is available it can be rolled out quickly in mass quantities, the department said.
Mr Johnson's exclusive article will be seen as an attempt to draw a line under the chaotic days in Westminster which followed his televised address to the nation last Sunday, which left many people confused about the rules about meeting friends and family.
The Prime Minister clarifies today: 'You can now spend as much time as you like outdoors, for example sitting and enjoying the fresh air, picnicking, or sunbathing. You can meet one other person from a different household outdoors, provided you maintain social distancing.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell turns up for flight in hazmat suit ...
Naomi Campbell is not taking chances as the coronavirus pandemic worsens. The supermodel arrived for her flight in a full hazmat suit, goggles, face mask and rubber gloves.

Last year July, before the coronavirus became an epidemic, Naomi did a video showing how she sanitizes everything when she gets on a plane. The video was filmed during her trip to Doha, Qatar, and showed her wiping down her seat area in the plane with disinfectant wipes while donning rubber gloves.  She then spread a bright pink seat cover on her seat, before finally settling down in her seat and covering her mouth with a black face mask to avoid getting infected by people "coughing and sneezing" on the flight.

Now, with coronavirus infecting and killing people all over the world, the supermodel, 49, is taking extra precaution to stay safe.

Obama attacks Trump AGAIN as he says he thinks like a 'little kid' and that's why the country is 'so screwed up' over the pandemic in address to virtual graduation after saying president doesn't 'know what he's doing'

Former President Barack Obama on Saturday criticized President Donald Trump in all but name as he gave a televised commencement address for high school seniors.
Obama's message to graduating high school students came at the end of an hourlong television special.
Obama panned 'so-called grown-ups, including some with fancy titles and important jobs' who do 'what feels good, what's convenient, what's easy.'
'That's how little kids think,' he added, 'which is why things are so screwed up.'
Earlier on Saturday, Obama gave another commencement address online, in which he claimed that the pandemic showed many officials were not 'even pretending to be in charge.'
Obama spoke on 'Show Me Your Walk, HBCU Edition,' a two-hour event for students graduating from historically black colleges and universities, which was broadcast on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
His remarks were unexpectedly political, given the venue, and touched on current events beyond the virus and its social and economic impacts.
The 44th President did not mention Trump by name, but there was no mistaking who he meant.

'More than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they´re doing,' Obama said. 'A lot them aren´t even pretending to be in charge.'
Earlier this month, he strongly criticized Trump´s handling of the pandemic as an 'absolute chaotic disaster' in a call with 3,000 members of his administrations.
The commencement remarks were the latest sign that Obama intends to play an increasingly active role in the coming election.
He has generally kept a low profile in the years since he left office, even as Trump has disparaged him. Obama told supporters on the call that he would be 'spending as much time as necessary and campaigning as hard as I can' for Joe Biden, who served as his vice president.
During Saturday's commencement address, Obama said the fatal shooting of an unarmed black jogger in Georgia shows how America is still unequal.
Obama urged the graduating class to take up the mantle of leadership, saying: 'If the world's going to get better, it's going to be up to you.'
The nation's first black president also alluded to Ahmaud Arbery case, which ignited outrage after video of the unarmed black jogger's fatal shooting surfaced online and went viral.
Arbery, 25, was accosted by two armed white men while going for a jog in his Georgia neighborhood on February 23.
The two men claimed they suspected Arbery of being linked to recent burglaries in the area and that they were legally permitted to detain him until law enforcement officials arrived.
Obama also made mention of the February 23 killing of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery (above), who was fatally shot by two armed white men who accosted him while he was jogging in his neighborhood in Georgia
Obama also made mention of the February 23 killing of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery (above), who was fatally shot by two armed white men who accosted him while he was jogging in his neighborhood in Georgia
After a struggle in which Arbery tried to flee, he was shot. Video of the incident shows him collapsing to the ground after he was stopped by the two men.
Public outrage grew as it was learned that local authorities declined to prosecute the men, who were known to be friends with officials in the prosecutor's office.
It took more than two months for authorities to make an arrest and charge Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son Travis McMichael, 34, with murder.
Obama told HBCU graduates on Saturday that the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed a disproportionately large number of African American victims, 'just spotlights the underlying inequalities and extra burdens that black communities have historically had to deal with in this country.'

Nigerian man shot dead in front of his girlfriend in Rivers ...

Another promising innocent life has been cut short this morning the 15th day of May 2020, in a mistaken identity hit that occurred this morning in the mile3 axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt.
What started about 5weeks ago as a minor battle for who takes matching ground rites from traders has gradually grown into a full-blown cult war amongst two major cult groups in the heart of Mile3 Diobu, with both sides counting human loss.

The Rivers State police command especially the Mile3 divisional police station, cannot feign ignorance to the cult-related killings numbering about 4 and the recent killing of this innocent young man named Leonard Chika making it a total of 5 people murdered in cold blood in the streets of Mile3 Diobu.

The deliberate silence and inactions of the Rivers State police command have emboldened these daredevils that outside attacking their rivals, they also go in a looting spree and carry out the destruction of people's properties when on any mission.

Leo was a friend and a very hardworking young man who doesn't mind doing anything to earn a living no matter how belittling as long as it is legal. Today in the presence of his girlfriend those who cannot give life shot and killed him in cold blood.

While i painfully mourn Leo, I call on the Rivers State Commissioner Of Police to unearth the killers of leo and also carryout investigation surrounding the cult-related killings in Mile3 Diobu and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I’m 30 and looking for love. I can’t cook, I can’t wash” – Nigerian lady
According to the Twitter user, she can’t cook or wash and is frequently occupied with work. She went further to ask fellow Twitter users to find her a sweetheart.
She proceeded to state that before she can even date, you need to demonstrate your significant husband material abilities to her.

“I’M ONE OF THOSE LADYS WHO knows EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT IN A MAN AND GO FOR IT
BEFORE WE CAN EVEN DATE, YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOUR HUSBAND MATERIAL SKILLS TO ME.
CAN YOU COOK? CAN YOU WASH? CAN U CHANGE A BABY’S DIAPER? CAN YOU POUND YAM? CAN YOU KILL AMINALS? CAN YOU FIGHT? HUH?”

A 34-year-old mother shook the internet when she took to her social media page to share beautiful photos of herself and her son as she celebrates his birthday.

Her good-looking son turned 17 on the 16th May 2020, and the elated mother took to Twitter to share photos which include a throwback from when he was still a baby and when he turned 17.

In the more recent photo which showed the both of them standing side by side, they both looked like young couples/siblings and it’s certain that if she hadn’t called him her son, they woulda passed as the aforementioned.
While most people reacted to the photos with utmost admiration, others were rather curious to know why the lovely mom had her son at 17.

Ondo ex-governor's son shot dead by gunmen – Blitziknewsplus

The Lagos State Police Command has started an investigation into the murder of Muyiwa Opaleye, son of a former military administrator of Ondo State, Brig-Gen Ekundayo Opaleye.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said the victim’s killers would be brought to book.

The 40-year-old Muyiwa, who lived in Victoria Island, Lagos, was reported to have been trailed to a joint at Aguda, Surulere, where he was hanging out with some friends.

The assailants said to be about four in number, reportedly arrived in the area in a Sports Utility Vehicle, which they parked on an adjoining street.

They were said to have trekked to the joint through a bush path.

The men then went for the victim in the crowd and rained bullets on him.

In the commotion that followed, the group of friends ran in different directions as the late Muyiwa was left in a pool of his blood.

He was later rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Elkana said the deceased was suspected to have had issues with some people.

He also noted that the victim tried to escape, but was chased by the assailants and shot dead.

Elkana said, “On Wednesday, around 1pm, there was a distress call from Adekunle Kuye Street, Aguda, that one Muyiwa Opaleye, who lived at V/I Lagos was trailed to Aguda and when he reached No 29, Adekunle Kuye Street, Aguda, the victim rushed out of his car and ran through a footpath.

“But his assailants chased him and gunned him down. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead. It is suspected that he must have had issues with some people. The corpse has been removed to the mortuary for autopsy. Investigations ongoing.”

All of Opaleye’s friends allegedly abandoned him save for one identified as Kunle, who ran back to save him.

He was said to have lifted him up, taken him to his (Opaleye’s) Honda City Sedan car and rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

Unfortunately for Kunle, the Police at Soloki Station, Aguda invited him for interrogation. He was eventually detained and moved him to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti as a suspect.

Opaleye worked with a sporting outfit called City Sports and lived at Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island but frequented Surulere where he had a lot of friends who took to social media to mourn his death.

Already, homicide detectives at SCIID have commenced investigation to unearth the culprits just as Okpaleye’s friends who were at the joint were being trailed to get their accounts of the incident.

A source said Kunle was being held because no one has corroborated his account of the incident, adding there was a need for others present at the joint to come forward and state the facts.

It was learnt others who were there might have gone into hiding for fear that the assassination might be cult-related, giving the recurring gang wars within Surulere that has seen two other persons killed in a similar manner since last December.

Police spokesman Bala Elkana could not be reached for comments at the time of this report as several calls to his telephone were not answered.

Exclusive: Victims Of 1995 Phantom Coup Cry Out For Justice ...

Victims of the 1995 phantom coup plot saga are still groaning in pains over the torture meted out to them by the regime of late despot, General Sani Abacha.
Colonel Gabriel Adetunji Ajayi (Rtd), a former Quarter Master General, Lagos Garrison Command, who is also one of the victims, recently recounted their ordeal to NewsBreakng. “There was neither a coup nor an attempted one in 1995 but an ungodly design by the then government to silence perceived opposition voices in and outside the military,” he said.
After 22 years, they are still appealing to the Federal government of the day to implement the recommendations contained in the Report of the Human Rights Violations Investigation Commission headed by late retired Supreme Court Judge, Mr. Justice Chukwudifu Oputa (JSC).
The Colonel also hinted that the coup “which never existed”, was also a ploy than to divert attention from the growing agitation and dissension over the annulment of June 12, 1993 presidential election believed to have been won fair and square by the late business Mogul and philanthropist, Moshood Abiola.

10th July 2017
Distinguished Honorable Senator (Dr.) Bukola Saraki
President Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Three Arms zone, Asokoro Abuja FCT
Through:
Distinguished Senator D.O Alaso Adura
Our Noble Father Sir,
APPEAL FOR THE SENATE INTERVENTION IN OUR PENDING DEMANDS FOR PROMOTION AND COMPENSATION FOR COLONEL GABRIEL ADETUNJI AJAYI AND 37 OTHER OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS WHO WERE UNJUSTLY ARRESTED BADLY TORTURED AND CONVICTED FOR 1995 PHANTOM COUP PLOT SAGA
1. We military officers and soldiers contained in annex A to this paper do hereby make our humble appeal to the noble Fathers and distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to come to our aid and ensure that justice is done to us victims of the 1995 phantom coup plot saga foisted on us by the regime of Late General Sani Abacha. Our appeal is based on the need to implement the recommendations contained in the Report of the Human Rights Violations Investigation Commission headed by late retired Supreme Court Judge, Mr. Justice Chukwudifu Oputa (JSC).
2. It was a common knowledge that there was neither a coup nor an attempted one in 1995 but an ungodly design by the then government to silence perceived opposition voices in and outside the military. It was also a ploy then to divert attention from the growing agitation and dissention over the annulment of June 12, 1993 Presidential election believed to have been won fair and square by the late business Mogul and Philanthropist Chief M.K.O Abiola. Chief Abiola himself as the custodian of the electoral mandate eventually died in military custody after four years of incarceration in July 1998. The Phantom Coup Plot Saga is the quo-efficient of June 12 election annulment crisis. Since June 12 election annulment had given birth to democracy, the dividends of which we are now enjoying there is need to give justice to the victims of the 1995 Phantom Coup Plot Saga.
3. Following the reported phantom coup d’état of 1995 we serving and retired officers in annexe A were unjustly arrested, tortured, tried by what could be termed a kangaroo tribunal, convicted and given outrageous sentences. While some of us were out-rightly sentenced to death by firing squad, others were sentenced to long prison terms ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment. Due to justifiable National outcry and anger by discerning Nigerians, (which also included many of you in this distinguished Senate Chamber), the vibrancy of the Nigerian Press and Electronic Media and of course the sustained pressure by the International Community spearheaded by the United States of America and Canada the death sentences were commuted to various prison terms ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment. Those initially sentenced to life imprisonment had their prison terms reduced to between 6 months and 15 years.
4. Those of us sentenced to death and who had their sentences commuted to between 25 years and life imprisonment had already served four years in prison facilities across the country when the then Head of State General Sani Abacha died on June 8 1998. His successor General Abdulsalami Abubakar reviewed our plight and granted us unconditional pardon on 4th February 1999in the exercise of his powers under section 161 of the unsuspended part of the 1979 constitution. The unconditional pardon was published in the Federal Republic of Nigeria Official Government Gazette No 33 Volume 23 of 16th May 1999.
•Retired Colonel Gabriel Adetunji Ajayi

5. Despite our unconditional pardon, we were in 2000 after staying for one year without any status compulsorily and prematurely retired without taking cognizance of our outstanding records in the military service. This was also the fate of other officers who were discharged and acquitted by either the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) or Special Military Tribunal (SMT). This implied that we were thrown out naked in the market place while our miseries continued. In the Military service compulsory retirement is still a form of punishment which imposes some form of disabilities. The ideal thing was to have restored all of us back to service in line with established historical military tradition after the unconditional pardon. I refer to the story of the arrest, trial and conviction of the French Army Captain Alfred Dreyfus for treason and miscellaneous offences in 1894. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the French Devil’s island of Guyana where he spent almost five years before his innocence was discovered. He was given an unconditional pardon and reinstated without loss of seniority, integrity and material possession. There are also ample references here in Nigeria Military of such reversal of injustice even including posthumous restoration and promotion. We refer here to the examples of Brigadier Mohammed Aliyu Gusua, Colonels ADS Wya and Esgeri Garuba etc. Our astonishment over this shabby and unjust treatment was rooted in the fact that the then sitting President General Olusegun Obasanjo was one of us the victims in the Phantom coup plot saga.
6. Those officers in serial numbers 34 to 38 were already long retired before their arrest, trial and conviction. Others who were non-active military personnel were also arrested, tried and convicted through the same Special Investigation Panel and Special Military Tribunal. Some of these people included Senators Shehu Sani, Chris Anyanwu, late Dr. Beko Ransome Kuti, Kunle Ajibade, Sanusi Mato, late Ben Charles Obi, George Mba, late Miss Rebecca AyanbeIkpe, Anthony Awoluyi (DSS Operative) and Miss Quinette Alagoa etc. They all served various terms of imprisonment with the exception of Mr. Anthony Awoluyi who voted with his feet into self-exile in the Benin Republic.
7. Upon the inauguration of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration on May 29 1999 (he himself a survival of the 1995 Phantom coup plot saga see serial 34 annexe A) the Federal government set up a holistic Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights abuses and violations which occurred under successive military regimes in Nigeria. The commission was headed by the Honorable Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Petitions were submitted to the commission by a broad spectrum of Nigerians who had axes to grind with successive military regimes from January 1966 to May 29 1999.
8. All of us serving and retired officers wickedly and unjustly roped into the 1995 phantom coup saga submitted our petitions collectively and individually and further gave oral testimonies on oath before the panel. Upon due diligent consideration and review of our petitions, the panel adjudged our fate to be a travesty of justice and made the following administrative and judicial recommendations to be implemented in our favour:
*All the charges and sentences passed on all victims by Abacha’s 1995 and 1997 Kangaroo Courts are to be quashed since charges, trials and convictions did not follow any known Rule of Law both in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
*All the serving military victims are to be promoted to their appropriate higher ranks in line with their course mates in the Armed Forces followed by voluntary retirement.
*Monetary compensation to be paid to all victims by the Federal Government (we believe this includes non-military personnel roped into the Phantom Coup plot).
*Medical evacuation for all victims who are still nursing physical and mental injuries as a result of ruthless torture during an investigation and solitary confinement in prison facilities across Nigeria.
*All victims are to be fully rehabilitated by the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
*Apology letters to be written to all the victims of the 1995 phantom coup plot saga to heal their wounds.
9. The Obasanjo administration could not implement the recommendations of the Oputa Panel which it accepted publicly with fun-fare for some undisclosed reasons. He however set in motion process of the implementation of the recommendations concerning us through his Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the federation Chief Bayo Ojo SAN. Nothing came out of it till both of them left office in 2007. We again raised the issue with President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s administration which set up a Presidential Committee on Prerogative of Mercy under the then Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the federation, Chief Michael Kaashe Aondoakaa SAN to consider our plights on merit and grant us the necessary relief.
10. Upon a critical review of our peaceful agitation and the administrative recommendations of Oputa panel, the committee recommended among others our promotion to the highest rank held by our course mates in the Armed forces and to be followed immediately by voluntarily retirement with full compensation in line with the recommendations of the Oputa Commission on Human Rights Abuses and Violations of rights. This is as it affected all the victims of 1995 phantom coup saga.
11. The Federal government was yet to implement the recommendations of Michael Aondoakaa’s committee when President Yar’Adua whose late elder brother was equally a victim took ill and eventually passed on in May 2010. We took up the case with his successor former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to use his good offices to redress the grave injustice done to us by ensuring the full implementation of the aforesaid recommendations of Oputa Panel and that of the Presidential Committee on the prerogative of mercy.
12. The government of former President Jonathan took necessarily legal and administrative actions by taking the issue to the National Council of States as contained in the National Council of States Memorandum CS – 2013 dated 17th March 2013. Grapevine sources revealed to us that the matter is actually held up in the department of Prerogative of Mercy Federal Ministry of Justice Abuja hence, our appeal for your sympathetic Fatherly intervention.
13. Distinguished Senators, we have been suffering in silence for the past 22 years since the issue has been lingering unresolved. Some of us are already dead while some others are battling with the debilitating illness. Precedence for such request to right glaring acts of injustice exists in the contemporary world and Military history and even right here in Nigeria. Such acts of righting injustice are not injurious to the system as some might want to plead. After all the system is made for man and not man for the system. Though we agree as soldiers that military life is incomplete without self-sacrifice and self-denial for every enlisted soldier knows that he/she is subject to three Ds (discharged, dismissed, or dead)these become destructive when wickedness is elevated to the level of National policy as displayed during General Sani Abacha dispensation.
Distinguish Senators, the sterling legacies of the 8th Senate since its inception two years ago is secured forever without any validation from anybody or any quarters. Our passion and persistence is for justice not only to be done but to be seen to have been done so that never again shall such type of thing happen in Nigeria.
The beneficiaries of injustice today in Nigeria might become its victims tomorrow. It is trite that injustice is the father of impunity which gave birth to corruption and other variants other forms of malfeasance. Let the future generation of Nigerians and historians say with nostalgia that there was a Senate President and Senators who did justice to fellow Nigerians when hope was almost lost.
God bless our Distinguished Senate President, God Bless the 8th Senate, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May your tenure be a pleasant one. We remain in the shadow of your mercy and compassion.
Yours Faithfully,
Colonel Gabriel Adetunji Ajayi (Rtd)Acm,Fss, Psc(t), FIIPS
(For and on behalf of the victims of 1995 Phantom Coup plot saga)
