Pro Biafra Leader, Nnamdi Kanu And His Wife Spotted By Security Agents In Ghana

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been spotted by security agents in Ghana, TheCable understands. There has been controversy over the whereabouts of the IPOB leader who was last seen in public in September 2017 before the military launched Operation Python Dance II — apparently to quell the agitation for the breakaway of south-eastern Nigeria.

Since the military raided his home in Aba, Abia state, there has been speculation that he was arrested and might have been killed. At some point, Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia state, said Kanu was in London. His court trial for treason has stalled and Enyinnaya Abaribe, the senator who served as Kanu’s surety when he was granted bail after spending 18 months in detention, has sought to be discharged from the obligation after his disappearance.

However, security sources have informed TheCable that Kanu was ferried to the Niger Delta creeks by militants at the height of Python Dance II, from where he found his way to Ghana by sea. He is regularly seen at Kenzo Bar and IBG saloon in Accra, disguised in fez cap and usually in company with his wife, Uchechi. Kanu is said to live at an area called Cantonment, also in Accra, at an estate called “Arabella”.

He regularly patronises suya joints in remote parts of the city, according to the sources. If confirmed, this will lay to rest speculations on the fate of the IPOB leader. His brother once asked the military to release his “dead body” if he had been killed.

The rate at which young guys now use other humans for rituals is quite alarming and it goes to depict the lack of adequate security and surveillance system in the country.

Just some few days back, a guy was allegedly caught trying to clean other people’s urine with a white handkerchief. He was suspected to be doing so for rituals purpose and this enraged the people of the area that he was beaten brutally.

A lady also sometimes narrated how she was saved from the hands of her former boyfriend who happened to be a Yahoo Boy. According to the lady, she overheard the guy talking with his friend on how he disposed the human excreta he ate the day before in his neighbour’s trash can.

She immediately ran for her dear life!

Hajiya Bola Shagaya In Legal Battle With EFCC Over Frozen N1,902 Billion Cash

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday urged the Federal High Court in Lagos not to unfreeze a Unity Bank account with a balance of N1,902,673,399.93 belonging to a businesswoman, Hajiya Bola Shagaya.

The anti-graft agency claimed that the N1.9bn was the balance of a total of N3,305,150,000, which Shagaya received as “founder fees” on behalf of an organisation, “Women for Change” being spearheaded by a former First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

The EFCC claimed that the N3.3bn was realised through Shagaya’s “fraudulent activities in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation,” where she allegedly “influenced the fraudulent allocation of Dual Purpose Kerosene to Index Petrolube Africa Limited, with the aid of the former First Lady, Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan.”

According to the EFCC, the N3.3bn was paid by the Index Petrolube Africa Limited and its sister company, Autodex Nigeria Limited.

The two companies, it said, belong to one Honourable Ezeani ThankGod, adding that the reason for the N3.3bn payment was to “fraudulently facilitate Dual Purpose Kerosene to ThankGod’s company, Index Petrolube Africa Limited.”

The anti-graft agency claimed that out of the N3.3bn, Shagaya had “paid a cumulative sum of N1,212,000,000 to the former First Lady, Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan, through her ‘Women for Change Initiative’ account domiciled in Diamond Bank, to which the former First Lady is the sole signatory.”

It said after paying N1.2bn to Patience, Shagaya kept the balance of N1.9bn for herself by “warehousing” same in her personal bank account in Unity Bank.

The EFCC said it was on this basis that it secured an order of Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos on December 29, 2016 to freeze the account.

It, therefore, begged Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the same court not to unfreeze Shagaya’s account, so that Shagaya would not “use this honourable court as a shield against criminal investigations and prosecution.”

These were contained in a counter-affidavit filed by the EFCC in response to an originating summons filed by Shagaya, urging the court to give her access to her Unity Bank account, which had been frozen since December 29, 2016.

Shagaya, through her lawyer, Mr. Napoleon Emeaso-Nwachukwu, contended that she was not given a fair hearing before Justice Muslim Hassan made the freezing order.

She urged Justice Oguntoyinbo to set Justice Hassan’s order aside by declaring it unconstitutional, null and void “as same violates the applicant’s right to own movable property as guaranteed by Section 44(1)(k) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.”

In a 19-paragraph affidavit deposed to by one Sulaiman Aliu, Shagaya expressed concern that the ex parte freezing order made by Justice Hassan appeared, otherwise, to be final as the judge “did not give any return date for further proceedings and did not avail the applicant, who was the respondent therein and owner of the attached properties, a hearing.”

She said there was no criminal charge against her before and after the freezing order was made to justify her being denied access to her account by the EFCC.

She added, “The order of this honourable court made on the 29th of December, 2016 by Honourable Justice M.S. Hassan deprived the applicant of her property without recourse to laid-down procedure and due process of law.

“The ex parte order made to last pending the determination of an investigation, which is devoid of a time certain and indefinite in nature, is oppressive and a violation of the applicant’s rights to fair hearing, presumption of innocence and right to her property.”

She said since “the unlawful freezing of the applicant’s account by the respondent, the applicant has not been able to transact with that account due to her inability to access same and this has caused her business losses and opportunities.”

She said it would be in the best interest of justice to grant her access to her account.

But the EFCC, in opposition, argued that Justice Oguntoyinbo lacked the power to sit as an appellate court over Justice Hassan’s decision, describing Shagaya’s originating summons as an abuse of court processes.

It accused Shagaya of filing the originating summons “so as to impede the proper dispensation of justice and thus avoiding criminal investigations and possible prosecution.”

After entertaining arguments from the EFCC’s lawyer, Idris Mohammed, and Shagaya’s lawyer, Emeaso-Nwachukwu, on Monday, Justice Oguntoyinbo adjourned till May 17, 2018 for judgment.

Britain is set for yet more travel misery tomorrow as the severe weather and sub-zero conditions continue when Storm Emma sweeps in from Europe to meet the 'Beast from the East'.

The Met Office said the arrival of Storm Emma tomorrow from France and Portugal will bring a 'cocktail of weather events' which will see blizzards, gales and sleet for the UK just days after the bitingly cold air arrived from Russia.

Hospitals cancelled operations today and staff living within walking distance were urged to come in, as police and fire services had to rescue stranded vehicles and deal with crashes following several more inches of snowfall.

For the first time in five years, the Met Office has activated a red snow warning - its highest level of weather alert - for Glasgow and Edinburgh, which means the extreme weather is expected from now until 10am tomorrow.

Forecasters have warned of up to 1ft 5in (40cm) of snow falling in the area, roads becoming blocked, long delays on buses and trains and some communities being cut off for 'several days' along with 'long' power cuts.

The Met Office definition of a red warning is that 'you should take action now to keep yourself and others safe from the impact of the weather' and that widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely'.

Forecasters have also warned of strong winds hitting the country tomorrow along with freezing rain from the afternoon, which will create black ice and impact the evening rush hour - including in London.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, on Tuesday, February 28, 2018, arraigned the duo of Ebiesuwa Abayomi Fredrick and Tinuola Idayat Oyegunle before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.

The defendants were arraigned following a petition submitted to the Commission by a complainant, alleging that they masterminded the infamous dollar scheme to entrap her.

According to the complainant, sometimes in May 2013, she boarded a taxi with three other passengers who were purported members of a syndicate who specialized in hoodwinking unsuspecting victims with an impending danger. She alleged that she heard the three passengers arguing about a Ghana-must-go bag filled with US Dollars in the boot of the car.

She added that one of the syndicate told her that she must be cleansed to avert sudden and mysterious death having heard their discussion. At that point, she was taken to an unknown destination where she subsequently started giving the defendants, and the other members of the syndicate different sums in cash and bank payment totalling N53, 713, 260.00, which she allegedly got from the sale of her properties in both Ibadan and Lagos.

Meanwhile, preliminary investigations revealed that over nine million naira (N9.1m) was paid to the second defendant, Tinuola Idayat Oyegunle account domicile in one of the third generation banks apart from other funds traced to the first defendant, Ebiesuwa Abayomi Fredrick personal account from the victim.

It was also discovered that he has built a hotel located at Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos State from the proceeds of the crime

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

The defendants accepted to take their plea without a legal representative. In view of their plea, prosecution counsel, Adeola Elumaro, prayed the court for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendants in prison custody.
Justice Abdulmalik however, ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Federal Prison, Agodi. She thereafter, directed the defendants to get a legal representative by the next adjournment or else the court will get one for them.

The case is adjourned to 19th March, 2018 for trial.

Mortuary attendant caught sexually assaulting late singer Ebony

A mortuary attendant was caught on video sexually assaulting the body of late Ghanaian singer Ebony who died in an accident earlier this month
In the viral video, the mortuary attendant is seen fondling the corpse of Ebony and that of her very good friend, Franklina Nkansah Kuri, who died alongside Ebony in the same accident on February 8. As he touched them, another mortuary attendant filmed.

In the video, the attendant, believed to be the head of the Bechem Government Hospital Mortuary, is seen with a rubber-gloved hand handling the bodies for the video to be shot, touching the bodies of the late Ebony and her friend inappropriately. While touching Ebony's body, the attendant extended his hand down to touch and play with her navel piercing rings. As he did that, he called for his assistant to shoot well.

Earlier in the video, the attendant held Kuri's head and looked at her face, then he is heard saying: "Unbelievable! Life is too short... I have taken footage of it."
Another person is heard saying: "If I see it on social media, I will hold you responsible because I won’t share it."
The attendant was later seen in the video fondling Ebony’s breasts and private part. This continued till the attendant filming asked him to take off his hands so he could better film her private part. It appears there were more than two persons involved in the insensitive act.
After the video went viral, members of the public were outraged and asked that the attendants be fished out and punished. Ebony’s father and her management have threatened to take legal actions against Bechem Government Hospital Mortuary. Speaking in an interview with Hitz FM’s Ibrahim Ben-Bako, the father of the late singer said such an act is unacceptable.

He said: "I’ve been told [but] I haven’t seen that. I hate to watch it. Trust me…you and I know it’s too bad a thing to do and therefore we are going to take them on."
He warned that "Whoever is involved in the recording… we will meet at the court."

Controversial Nigerian investigative journalist, Kemi Omololu Olunloyo is in the news again, but this time, to share a touching story of her younger brother who has been confined to a wheelchair following an attack.
Daughter of a former governor of Oyo State, Victor Omololu Olunloyo has shared the story of her younger brother who has been on the wheelchair all his life after being attacked during a case of student protest.
Akintayo Olunloyo has painfully spent 4 decades on the wheelchair with one of his hands paralysed and Kemi took to Instagram, calling on Nigerians to pray for her as his health worsens

Read her post on Instagram below:

“#BREAKING UPDATE
My brother #akintayoolunloyo has been fighting for his life for a week now. He left the hospital & was brought home. I am very distraught and I prayed for him before I left for #Lagos yesterday. Continue to pray for him. He’s the product of how the government FAILED US.
40 YEARS ON THE WHEELCHAIR
While some of the trolls during my birthday @instablog9ja chose to mock my disabled brother #AkintayoOlunloyo, I would love to tell you his story at 8yo in 1978 when his livelihood was taken by the Nigerian government system that has failed many. My brother Akintayo Olunloyo is 47yo now. 48 on April 1st, 2018. He is still a kid at heart despite a devastating accident which cost him his livelihood. On April 28th1978, Tayo suffered severe brain injury during the 1978 #AliMustGo riots where Nigerian University students protesting increased tuition attacked government vehicles as they passed with my entire family in one as we drove straight into the riot from Ibadan to Lagos via Ikorodu road with no prior warning.
The Minister of Education was Ahmadu Ali, a former #pdp working committee Chairman and first DG for the NYSC. Rioters pelted our car with rocks and set the petrol tank on fire. His life was saved by the brain surgeon team of late Dr Kwaku Adadevoh (My late childhood friend Ameyo Adadevoh’s father) and late Dr Ojikutu one of #Nigeria’s best neurosurgeons. Tayo is a quadriplegic paralyzed waist down since 1978. He also lost the use of his left hand. The plight of disabled Nigerian kids has been one of my causes as many are simply abandoned and forgotten on the streets.
Many are #Hausas who were either crippled from the #Kano Trovan Meningitis epidemic drug trial tragedy or #polio and other ailments. I want the feds to help our disabled youth and end this. I spoke to Ahmadu Ali in 2017 who felt so sad in his faint elderly voice telling me he thought Tayo had passed on years ago. I told Ali Tayo has lived a life of pain and was still battling powerful seizures in the brain
Papa @david_ibiyeomie please help me bless my brother.
Amen…Seated on the throne
Holy is our Lord
Hallelujah.

Witness Tells Court How $1m Was Found In Ex- Chief Of Air Staff, Alex Badeh’s Wardrobe

Anna Awe Akuson, a prosecution witness in the N3.9billion fraud trial involving Alex S. Badeh, former Chief of Air Staff, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 told Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja how a search conducted on a property allegedly belonging to the defendant led to the recovery of $1million (One Million US Dollars) suspected to be proceeds of illicit deals.

Akuson, an operative of the EFCC, who testified as PW20, said that the money was found in a wardrobe at the upper apartment of the building located at No. 6 Ogun River Street, Off Danube Street, Maitama, Abuja.

Led in evidence by Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, counsel to the EFCC, Akuson said: “I am a cameraman working with the EFCC. On February 24, 2016, I was assigned to go on a search with some operatives. The team leader told me the properties (we were to search) belong to Alex Badeh.

“On reaching the place, I started my recording from outside. In the master bedroom (upstairs), we found a traveling bag covered with a pillow-case in the wardrobe. We opened the traveling bag and found US dollars inside. We brought the bag down and the money was counted.
“After the search, we returned to the office and I copied the visual from my camera to a hard drive, after which I burned it to a DVD disc”.

Thereafter, the prosecution sought to tender the certificate of identification and the DVD disc of the recording, but its admissibility was strongly objected to by Badeh’s counsel, Akin Olujimi, SAN.

While relying on Section 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, Olujimi argued, “I am for the first time seeing these documents in court now that the Registrar handed them over to me.

“There is no doubt that the prosecutor did not include these two documents in the information he filed before this court. That means we have been deprived of the rights of an accused person by the law. These two documents ought to have accompanied the information which the court has”.

Responding, Jacobs argued that the documents had been made available to the defence when the EFCC’s investigating officer (who testified as PW19) gave his evidence. However, he offered to avail the defence counsels with copies of the documents.

Olujimi further applied that the next date of hearing, which is March 1, 2018 be vacated to enable the defence study the documents and prepare their defence.
Consequently, Justice Abang adjourned to March 14, 2018 for continuation of trial.
Badeh is facing trial alongside Iyalikam Nigeria Limited, on a 10-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N3.9billion.

He, among other things, allegedly between January and December, 2013, used dollar equivalent of the sum of N1.4billion (One Billion, Four Hundred Million Naira) removed from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force to purchase a mansion situated at No. 6, Ogun River Street, Off Danube Street, Maitama, Abuja.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, February 28, announced dates for general elections in the country for the next 36 years, starting from 2019 to 2055.

The chairman of the commission, Prof. Mamood Yakubu, made the announcement at a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja.

“In 2019, the dates are February 16 and March 2;
in 2023, the dates are February 18 and March 4.
In 2027, the dates are February 20 and March 6;
in 2031, it is February 15 and March 1. “In 2035, it is February 17 and March 3;
in 2039, it is February 19 and March 5 and in 2043, it will hold on February 21 and March 7.

In 2047, it is February 15 and March 2; in 2051, it is February 18 and March 1; in 2055, it is February 20 and March 6," Yakubu said.

He pointed out that in other democracies of the world periods of elections were generally known and were not topics for speculation. Yakubu explained that the aim was to engender certainty in the election calendar and allow for long-term planning by the commission and all stakeholders. He said that certainty in election calendar was necessary to match Nigeria’s democratic system with global best practices.

The chairman said that in the last one week, INEC received 108 applications from associations seeking to be registered as political parties. He said that 66 of the applications did not meet the initial requirements while 33 passed and had proceeded to the next stage. He said that nine others were at the final stage of registration.

The INEC boss commended political parties for the roles they played in the governorship and National Assembly by-elections in Anambra which ensured that the exercises were crisis-free. He urged all existing political parties yet to comply with all relevant sections of the constitutional requirements necessary for their existence, to do so.

He advised the parties to ensure rancour-free conventions and congresses ahead of 2019 and the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections later in the year. “Internal party democracy is critical to the overall success of the elections and it helps to eliminate some protracted litigations. Less than a year to the 2019 general elections, there are still cases in courts, challenging the nomination of candidates in the 2015 elections," he said.

Yakubu urged the parties to support the commission in its quest to sanitise the voter register by drawing the attention of the umpire to any irregularity. In his remarks, the chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Alhaji Mohammed Nalado, commended INEC for recognising political parties as partners He said that with little or no financial support, political parties were at the forefront of voter sensitisation to the need to conduct themselves responsibly at polling units. Nalado commended the commission for creating an enabling environment for free and fair elections by rolling out election calendar in good time.

He added that the political parties were happy with the position of INEC on the sequence of elections, saying that the commission acted on the existing law. He welcomed the newly-registered political parties to IPAC and urged INEC to support the council’s plan to amend its code of conduct.

According to Nalado, the amendment will address issues of internal democracy, conflict resolution system among other issues affecting political parties in the country.

UK Weather: England is put on snow red alert
Britain's weather death toll has risen to seven after a motorist died in a crash between a lorry and a van on a snow hit road. The victim, a 46-year-old man who was driving the van, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A34 in Hampshire. Part of the sea around the UK have frozen over after the 'Beast From The East' continues to batter Britain with snow and sub-zero temperatures.

Boats were trapped on Bembridge Harbour, on the east coast of the Isle of Wight after water temperatures dropped below -2C.

Temperatures on the Isle dipped below -6C overnight and an amber weather warning has been issued for today.

Dundrum Inner Bay, in Northern Ireland, was also frozen over with lumps of ice all along waters edge
Temperatures in London remained just below freezing at around -2C as the deep freeze set in.

Storm Emma, rolling in from the Atlantic, is meeting the Beast from the East's chilly Russia air - causing further widespread snowfall and bitter temperatures after the mercury fell as low as -16C last night.

The Met Office warned: 'Some roads are likely to become blocked by deep snow, stranding vehicles and passengers. Long interruptions to power supplies and other utilities are very likely to occur, along with damage to trees and other structures due to heavy snow or ice.'

On the first day of meteorological spring today, temperatures will drop to -11C during the day as Scotland was also under a 'red alert' - and London Paddington train station was closed due to 'severe weather'.

As much as 20 inches of snow is predicted to fall across the UK tomorrow as Storm Emma makes her way closer to Britain.
